Do over

So... best laid plans and all that stuff.  On day 2 of Whole30 I found out Tom's aunt had passed away and we would be traveling for the next week.  It seemed basically impossible to stay on track without also inducing tons of stress, so I decided to put off Whole30 until we got back.  It was a good choice.  I ate Cookout milkshakes and hush puppies TWICE while in South Carolina.  YUMMM.

So... here we go again.  Today is day 3.  Other than wanting to drink wine when we went to a friends house MOnday night, I feel pretty good.  Tonight I get to be the weird girl who brings a tupperware of food into the O's game.  But its all good. Alright... highlights from Days 1 and 2 in picture form.

I was craving a snack after we got home from our friend's house on Monday..... So i made hot tea and had a hard boiled egg and blueberries.

Ummm... so cool.  I spiralized a sweet potato last night.  The recipe called for grated sweet potato... but in the picture it was kind of thick.  I tried the mandolin, I tried the cheese grater, then I tried the spiralizer for the win!

More meal prep.  Last night we had "Melissa's Chicken Hash" from the Whole30 book.  It was weird but yummy.  Chicken, sweet potatoes, green apple, red pepper, arugula.  In case you feel so inclined... here is the recipe: https://whole30.com/2017/04/melissas-chicken-hash/

My go to "mocktail."  POM juice (this is blueberry) mixed with seltzer.  Sometimes I just need a break from regular water.

Also a saving grace on Whole30... BACON.  Giant store brand low sodium bacon is not cured with sugar so it is good to use on Whole30.  You're welcome world.

Last night I got home from softball around 8:30 and was hungry... so I made turkey, bacon and avocado wraps.

Whole30

So I've come to understand that I like rules.  I am an all or nothing type of person.  When there are no rules, I eat junk.  Like a lot of junk.  When there are rules, I follow them.  Moderation when it comes to food is not my thing.  Why would I eat one Oreo when I can eat 5?  I mean, seriously?  Tom swears that he thinks I did my best when I was calorie counting.  I am not in a place where I want to log more things and keep track of more things.  So.. whole 30 it is.

I've done Whole 30 twice before and both times felt amazing by the end of the 30 days.  It's the sticking to it after the 30 days that is a challenge for me. So let me back up.  On Whole 30 you eat protein, fat, fruits and vegetables and cut out all the other crap.  No: grains, dairy, beans, alcohol.  It is intended to be an anti inflammatory diet.  Supposedly, if you cut out those things for 30 days it gives your insides time to heal and repair themselves.  Then, there is a 10 day reintroduction where you try out one food added to your whole 30 diet and see how that food changes your mood, sleep, body, energy.  I've never actually done the reintroduction phase because on day 31 I usually drink wine and get chick fil a for breakfast.  Woops.  This time, I intend to do the reintroduction correctly.

Today is day 2.  Below is a summary of what I ate on day one.

Breakfast: eggs, buffalo chicken, avocado, apple, coffee w/ unsweetened vanilla almond milk

Snack: RX bar

Lunch: Chicken marinated in speedie sauce, potatoes, green beans, carrots

Snack: apple, almonds with raisins, coffee w/ unsweetened vanilla almond milk

Dinner: Steak, radish/ cucumber salad, side salad

My only slip up yesterday was using soy sauce to marinate the steak because I thought I had coconut amino in my cabinet but I was out.  I feel like if I am going to have a slip up... day one is the day to have it.

Today is day 2 and I'm feeling pretty good so far.
